The "Horseman's School of Equitation" opened for business on July 1st 1993 with 11 stalls, 1 small riding ring, and 4 small turn out paddocks. Over the years the facility has grown to now include a 34 stall barn, 3 show quality fenced sand rings (all of which have their own sand warm up areas), a 62' x 130' indoor arena, and a total of 12 turn out paddocks.
The riding school brings students from the beginner ranks right up to winning at the provincial championships. HSE is owned and operated by Julie and Mike Claus. Julie has been a professional member of the horse community since her certification in 1991. She holds an honours certificate in Equine Skills and Horse Care from Humber College of Applied Arts and Technology, as well as a Diploma in Equine Coaching. In addition to being a Certified coach of Equine Canada, Julie has an Equine Canada Course Designer "r" status for Hunters and Jumpers.
Prior to becoming a certified coach Julie was an active show competitor riding on the Trillium and Seagram's circuits as well as the IHSA circuit in New York State. Julie has had many coaches and mentors along the way such as Barbara Mitchell, Robin Howard, Elizabeth McMullen, Pat Carter, Suzanne and Don Ferguson and Stuart Young-Black.
As well as running the stable and riding school Julie has also been very heavily involved in the running of horse shows. Aside from the many different shows hosted at her farm each year Julie has also been the Southwest region rep for the Trillium Circuit, a director on the board of the London Horsemanship Club, a director of the Zone One Arabian Horse Club, and an advisor to many other clubs and organizations that hold shows in the local area.
